The Benefits of Sildenafil

Sildenafil is a long-established prescription treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED). With sexual stimulation, it can help you:

Why it matters

ED Is Common, and Worth Talking About

Erectile dysfunction affects millions of men in the U.S. and becomes more common with age. Because erections depend on healthy blood flow, ED can be an early sign of other health issues.

ED can be linked to:

  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • High cholesterol
  • Stress and anxiety

That's why your provider reviews your heart health and every medicine you take before prescribing.

Before you begin

Good questions.
Clear answers.

A little clarity goes a long way.

Only as your provider directs. It is usually taken about an hour before sexual activity, and never more than once in 24 hours. A heavy, high-fat meal can delay how quickly it works.

Both are PDE5 inhibitors. Sildenafil acts for a shorter period; tadalafil acts longer. Your provider recommends one, or neither, based on your health history, the medicines you take and your preferences.

Anyone who takes nitrates (such as nitroglycerin or "poppers") or riociguat, or who has been told to avoid sexual activity because of heart problems. Tell your provider about every medicine you take.

No. Insurance is not required. Your price is shown in your online visit, before checkout, and your provider confirms the details after reviewing your file.

If the licensed provider decides that treatment is not appropriate for you, you are notified with the reason and no medication is dispensed. Any amount you have already paid is refunded in full to your original payment method. Not everyone qualifies, and the provider may recommend a different path.

Never with nitrates

Taking sildenafil with nitrates (nitroglycerin, isosorbide, "poppers") or riociguat can cause a sudden, dangerous drop in blood pressure.

Important risks

Seek emergency care for an erection lasting more than 4 hours, sudden vision loss in one or both eyes, or sudden decrease or loss of hearing. Sexual activity puts strain on the heart.

Talk with your provider

Review every medicine you take, including alpha-blockers, blood pressure medicines and some HIV or antifungal medicines. Limit alcohol. Read the full safety information below.

Important Safety Information

Sildenafil Rx

What it is used for

Sildenafil is a prescription medicine used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.

Do not take sildenafil if you

take any nitrate medicine (such as nitroglycerin or isosorbide) or use recreational nitrates ("poppers"), take riociguat, or are allergic to sildenafil. Combining sildenafil with nitrates or riociguat can cause a sudden, unsafe drop in blood pressure.

Before starting, tell your provider if you

have heart problems or have been told sexual activity is unsafe for you, have had a heart attack, stroke or irregular heartbeat, have low or uncontrolled high blood pressure, have liver or kidney problems, have an eye condition such as retinitis pigmentosa or have had sudden vision loss, have a blood cell condition or a penis deformity, or take alpha-blockers, other ED treatments, or HIV, antifungal or antibiotic medicines.

Serious side effects

An erection that will not go away (priapism) — get medical help if it lasts more than 4 hours; sudden vision loss in one or both eyes; sudden decrease or loss of hearing, sometimes with ringing or dizziness; a drop in blood pressure that can cause fainting; and chest pain during sexual activity. Stop and get emergency help if any of these occur.

Common side effects

Headache, flushing, upset stomach, abnormal vision (such as a blue tinge or blurred vision), stuffy or runny nose, back pain, muscle aches, nausea, dizziness and rash.
